Matilal Sarkar, M Sc. BT. Is a retired Headmaster of H.S. School,an Ex-MLAand Ex-MP. He hails from village. He is a columnist of news papers and different magazines. He is also an author of many books, among which the prominent ones are PRABAHA I & II, DWANDWA O BIKASH, TRAS, SIKSHA EKTI SANGRAM, LIFE WELCOME, TRIPURAR GANA ANDOLANER ITIHASE DASHARATH DEB, BASTU THEKE PRAN O ER BIKASH , LIFE WELCOME, etc. Sri Matilal sarkar was born in a farmer’s family. His father, Late Haladhar Sarkar, was a primary school teacher and also a farmer. Both his parents died in consecutive years when they were 40 to 50 years of age and Sri Sarkar was then 5 and 6 years old respectively. The situation caused Sri sarkar to prosecute late studies. He obtained B.sc. degree from MBB College, Agartala . Then he joined service in Bishalgarh Higher Secondary School . But he left the school in protest of retrenchment of a teacher who was a teacher of quality and very popular to the student. At that time there was no situation to launch any protest against the school management . So he thought it would be proper to get rid of the school
and get engaged in higher studies. The secretary of the school persuaded him to retain in the school. But he was bent on leaving the school. He left the school and got admitted in Saugar University , Madhya Pradesh. He was always known to be a bright scholar. After a brilliant result from Saugar University in his post graduation in Mathematics, he joined the same Bishalgarh Higher Secondary school at the earnest request of the school authority. He later became the headmaster of that school. From his student life he came in contact with Anil Sarkar, Secretary of the state unit of All India Students Federation and an outstanding student leader of M B B College, Agartala. While in service at Bishalgarh , he became the leader of Tripura (Non Govt.) teachers’ Association and subsequently Tripura Employees’ Coordination Committee. These organizations were the ancillary to the Communist Party of India(Marxist). Gradually he became an active member of CPI(M), He was elected to Tripura Legislative Assembly in three terms from 1978 to 1993. He was elected to Rajya Sabha , the upper house of the Indian Parliament and remained member of parliament for eight years. It is mentionable here that his political life was not all happy, rather it was thorny. He was sent to jail during food movement in 197 3. In the year 1983, his house at Bishalgarh was burnt and he along with the members of his family was compelled to leave Bishalgarh and take shelter in the MLA hostel for quite a long period. The circumstances compelled him to give up service at Bishalgarh and simultaneously was appointed headmaster of Ishan Chandra Nagar Pargana Higher Secondary school. He did everything possible for the upliftment of both the Bishalgarh and Ishan Chandra Nagar schools. He greatly contributed to improvement of the Tripura Board of Secondary Education as its member and its Vice President gave it a stable foundation in his tenure of eighteen years. Sri Sarkar is a columnist of the mouth piece of the C P I (M) Tripura state committee. Besides this, he has written many books giving Marxist analysis on current events and philosophical matters. He writes articles on current events in magazines and journals. He has taken bold initiative to open a web site to give wide focus on Marxian explanation of scientific discoveries, social occurrences , topics of natural sciences, on running issues and mythological books and epics. Sri Sarkar’s prime mission is to instill firm scientific belief in and remove un esthetic ideas from the thinking process of mankind. He has no dogma against idealistic philosophy, though he is opposed to it on principle. He is not in a position to take up or accept any proposition until it gets realistic foundation. Sri Sarkar has made great contribution in his deliberations in the parliament and with his role in the standing committees to the welfare and development of the country and well-being of the people. As a member of Tripura Legislative Assembly he was on the Tripura University Council at the formation stage of the University and contributed to its foundation. He witnessed that it was a hard task to maintain a life process in honesty and simplicity. Opposition and troubles cloud
the path of progress and ultimately disappear giving enormous experience in the ways of life. This is the dialectical method of studying the natural courses of advancement and development.
